Museum copy: Forgotten Fleece Tales

Project type

Exhibition, copywriting, design, formatting

Date

July 2025

Location

Scotland

Forgotten Fleece Tales is a touring Scottish exhibition of textile arts, celebrating the space where art, craft, story and ecology come together.

The exhibition features a curated collection of works made using “waste” or “unwanted” organic Scottish fleece, and byproducts of industrial fleece processing. Works include items of traditional clothing, tapestries and rugs, as well as sculptures, polymer materials, and interactive experiences.

I was asked to research, write and design sign boards for each piece, presenting information about the artists, the pieces, and the materials used. I also created general interest signs about the project, as well as two signs exploring textiles in Scottish folklore, which included my own illustrations.

I also wrote a unique "tale" for each piece in the exhibition, drawing on themes suggesting by the works, and binding them together with Scottish landscapes and the notion of things forgotten, lost and found. These were formatted for visitors to read on signboards, or to listen to via video recordings which were available via QR code.

The exhibition has travelled throughout Scotland, and is booked into museums, galleries and heritage centres up until the end of 2027.
